As of July 2026, the DMCC Free Zone in Dubai (UAE) has extended the transition period for its member companies to update their corporate names by replacing the suffix DMCC with FZCO.
- Suffix change is purely administrative, leaving company legal status, operations in the UAE, and the name DMCC Free Zone entirely unaffected.
- Adopting the FZCO suffix aligns DMCC with naming conventions used in most UAE free zones, improving nationwide consistency of entity designations.
- The online suffix update via the DMCC Member Portal is free of charge and requires no supporting documents if the trade licence is active.
- After updating, firms must proactively revise all corporate documents and notify banks, clients, and counterparties to avoid contractual and operational discrepancies.
New Deadline for Replacing DMCC with FZCO
In response to our inquiry, the DMCC Authority confirmed that a new deadline has been set for companies to replace the suffix in their legal names: 31 December 2026. The previous deadline expired on 30 June of this year.
The name update process remains free of charge and is carried out online via the Member Portal on the DMCC website.
Key Details
Starting 2 January 2025, all newly incorporated companies in the DMCC Free Zone are assigned names ending with the abbreviation FZCO (short for “Free Zone Company”) instead of the former DMCC suffix. If a branch is established rather than an independent entity, its name will contain FZ Branch (formerly DMCC Branch).
Companies and branches incorporated in the DMCC Free Zone prior to 2 January 2025, must update their names by 31 December 2026. Although companies may continue using their current names until the end of the transition period without facing penalties or restrictions, we recommend initiating the required update as soon as possible.

Reasons Behind the Suffix Change
This adjustment is purely administrative and technical. It does not affect the legal status of companies or their business operations in the UAE. The primary name of the company (the portion preceding the suffix) remains unchanged, as does the name of the Free Zone itself (DMCC).
The FZCO suffix explicitly indicates that the entity is registered in a free zone rather than operating as a mainland UAE entity. Because this abbreviation is already standard across most other UAE free zones, DMCC’s adoption of this format unifies entity designations nationwide.
Recommended Actions
For entities registered on or after 2 January 2025 no action is needed, as the FZCO suffix was assigned automatically upon incorporation (as reflected in your Certificate of Registration and Commercial License).
Entities registered prior to 2 January 2025 must update the suffix online via the Member Portal on the DMCC website. The service is free and does not require submitting any documentation, provided the company holds an active business license.
Upon completing the process, the company will receive:
- An E-Certificate of Suffix Change in Company Name;
- An updated E-License reflecting the updated legal name.
Beyond updating the suffix on the Portal, companies must align their corporate and internal documentation, contracts, invoices, letterheads, marketing materials, and other collateral with the new legal name. It is equally important to notify your banking partners, clients, and counterparties of this change.
